American lottery firm Scientific Games Corporation has been selected as the primary vendor for instant ticket printing and marketing services for the New York Lottery.
New York-based Scientific Games revealed that it was awarded the contract, which is set to commence following the expiration of its current deal on July 28, following the completion of the New York Lottery’s request for proposals process while GTECH Printing Corporation and Pollard Banknote Limited were also selected to serve as alternate printers.
“Printing lottery instant tickets is a highly specialised process,” said Gordon Medenica, Director for the New York Lottery.
“We have had very good experience with all three companies over many years. the final selection of a primary printer versus alternate printers was the result of a detailed evaluation process and a thorough analysis of the capabilities of each bidder.”
As the primary vendor, Scientific Games stated that it will provide ‘a variety of marketing services including research, game design and retail support’ and receive at least 50 percent of the total printing work. the New York Lottery spends more than $24 million annually on instant ticket printing in producing over 1.6 billion tickets per year with Scientific Games receiving $17.7 million last year under the terms of its current instant ticket services contract in the eastern state. For their part, alternate printers GTECH and Pollard will collect specific ticket printing assignments as selected by the New York Lottery.
The New York Lottery declared that its new contract with Scientific Games contains ‘various incentives in the compensation structure’ that have been designed to improve its bottom-line performance. As the primary vendor, Scientific Games will be able to earn performance awards based on hitting various benchmark levels of sales and profits.
“It’s a win-win situation for both the New York Lottery and the vendor,” said Medenica.
The New York Lottery is the largest and most profitable operation of its kind in North America and last year contributed over three billion dollars to education programmes in the state, which represented in excess of 15 percent of the total funds given in aid of local school districts.
