Each week, The Argus-Press publishes a list of luncheons anddinners to be held as fundraisers by churches and other nonprofitorganizations.

People responsible for such an open-to-the-public event shouldsubmit information to The Argus-Press by the Wednesday beforepublication of this column, which usually runs on Friday. If youhave questions, call The Argus-Press during weekday business hours,8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at 725-5136.

THE OWOSSO VFW is hosting Sunday breakfasts from 8 a.m. tonoon.

THE VERNON TOWNSHIP FIRE DEPARTMENT is hosting a dinner and auctionat 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the Durand VFW. There will be a pasta bar,comedy show, silent and live auctions and entertainment by DanKramer and Rusch Entertainment. Proceeds will go toward newhydraulic extrication equipment for the department. A GALA FOR GRAZIER is planned at 5 p.m. Saturday to help defraymedical costs for Debbie Grazier, music minister at FirstCongregational Church, UCC of Owosso. The event is at GiGi’s, 3144East M-21 in Corunna, and includes dinner, a live DJ and dancing, alive auction, a 50/50 drawing, raffles and a talent show.Refreshments, dinner and entertainment begin at 6 p.m. some of theauction items include private plane and helicopter rides, art work,quilts, a television, dinner for four, dessert-of-the-month for ayear, and a horse-drawn wagon ride for 20 friends. Tickets are a$12 donation (including one free drink) and are available at thedoor or in advance by calling Laura Meiers at 729-7238.

CHICKEN DINNER Saturday at the Henderson United Methodist Church.Takeouts and serving will take place  from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Dinnerincludes baked chicken, mashed or baked potatoes, corn, coleslaw,biscuits, gravy and pie or cake. Cost is $7 for adults, $3.50 forchildren 12 and under or free for kids of preschool free.

THE SHIAWASSEE COUNCIL on Aging is hosting a fall smorgasborddinner from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at 300 N. Washington St.Menu includes a variety of meats, mashed potatoes, gravy,vegetables, salads, roll, butter, beverage and dessert. The cost is$8 for adults, seniors and children 12 and under $7, under 5 free. Takeouts are available, call 723-8875.

A JAMBOREE to benefit Hospice House is planned from 6:30 to 9:30p.m. Oct. 14 at the Family Life Center, 2100 N. M-52. There will becountry and gospel music. A rocking chair will be available to win.Admission is a $2 donation at the door. Beverages and snacks willbe available. for more information, call 723-4510.

THE OWOSSO VFW Ladies Auxiliary is holding a sale for hobbyists,crafters garage and rummage salers, home party reps and a VFW bakesale. The event is 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 15 at the VFW, 519 S.Chipman St. Spaces are 9 by 10 feet with two tables for $20.Outdoors spaces are $10. BAKE SALE, broasted chicken dinner, raffle drawing and euchre forSt. Paul Catholic Church of Owosso will be taking place at theKnights of Columbus, 1259 E. Main St., Oct. 15. The day begins witha bake sale 3 to 7 p.m. The ladies of the parish will be bakingspecialties for this event. The broasted chicken dinner will be5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Dinner includes broasted chicken, choice of twopotatoes, gravy, dressing, choice of vegetables and a salad bar. At7:30 p.m. the 10 cash raffle prizes will be drawn. following theraffle drawing, euchre will begin in the Flynn Room with a $5 entryfee.

TURKEY BUFFET DINNER from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 15 at the Trinity UnitedMethodist Church, 1629 W. Brady Road in Chesaning. Cost is $10 foradults and $5 for kids under 12. Reservations can be made bycalling the church at 845-3157, but walk-ins are alsowelcome.

BROASTED CHICKEN DINNER hosted by St. Paul Catholic Church from5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 15 at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 1259 E.Main St. in Owosso. A bake sale will be from 3 to 7 p.m., a raffledrawing will be at 7:30 p.m. and euchre begins at 7:30 p.m. Allbenefit St. Paul School and religious education.

EUCHRE TOURNAMENT hosted by the VFW 9455 Auxiliary will be held at2 p.m. Oct. 16 at the Owosso VFW Post, 519 S. Chipman St. Cost toenter is $6 and 25 cents for each euchre. anyone is invited toplay, but pre-registration is requested. A FAMILY ANTI-BULLYING event is planned for 2 p.m. Oct. 16 atGiGi’s Catering, 3144 E. M-21. The event will kick off at 2 p.m.with a three-legged race for kids (ages 5-8 and 9-12), then afour-legged race for teens (13 and older, three together), followedby a wheelbarrow race, and the egg toss. First-, second- andthird-place ribbons will be awarded to winners.  from 2 to 4 p.m.,preschoolers will enjoy making pumpkin faces, a lollipop tree,bounce house, face painting, petting zoo, snake pit (teaching themto avoid scary/dangerous things and people), as well as otherteamwork type games. an adult tug o’ war competition is in theworks as well. Advance tickets for the event are $5 per person/$10per family of four or $20 per six and include food, drinks and allthe game stations. ANNUAL SALAD LUNCHEON hosted by the St. Bernadine Guild will beheld from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 19 at the St. Joseph Schoolgymnasium, 811 E. Oliver St. in Owosso. Lunch will include avariety of homemade salads, meatballs, pulled pork, homemadedesserts and beverages. Cost is $6 and takeouts are available.Proceeds will sponsor local food pantries.

TURKEY SUPPER from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 20 at the JuddvilleUnited Methodist Church, on the corner of Durand and Juddvilleroads. Dinner will include turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes,gravy, vegetables, cranberries, coleslaw, rolls, pie and abeverage. Cost is $8 for adults, $5 for children ages 6 to 12 andfree for kids 5 and under.

ANNUAL TURKEY DINNER at the Lennon United Methodist Church, 1014Oak St., is planned for Oct. 20. Takeouts start at 4:30 p.m. (call(810) 621-3676) and seating starts at 5 to 7 p.m. Cost is $9 foradults, $4 for children age 5 to 12 and free for kids 4 andunder.

THE FIRST CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH of Owosso will host a New Yorkstrip steak dinner  from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 21. Theall-you-can-eat dinner includes baked potato, salad, beverage anddessert. Adults are $10, children under 8 are $5; takeouts areavailable by calling 723-3010. all proceeds benefit theCongregational Roof Project. first Congregational Church is locatedat 327 North Washington St. A handicap-accessible entrance isavailable through the northeast door. A BENEFIT FOR PAUL CARR is planned at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 22 at theKnights of Columbus on M-21. Carr was injured in a fall. The eventincludes a pig roast and pulled pork sandwiches, baked beans, corn,salad and other food items. There will be a silent auction, 50/50sand other events. to donate items, call 277-9080.

THE MIDDLEBURY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH will host a fall bazaar from9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Oct. 22 at 8100 W. Hibbard Road. The saleincludes crafts, a bake sale, rugs, hard candy, Christmas gifts andother items. A luncheon will be available with sandwiches, soupsand pie.

DURAND Middle School’s sixth annual craft show is planned from 10a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 22 at the school, 9550 Lansing Hwy. Admissionis free and there will be concessions. Items include handmade woodcrafts, clothing, food, baby items, holiday gifts, jewelry, potteryand handbags. Venders still have time to register. Call (989)413-1359 for more information.

FALL FESTIVAL FUNDRAISER from 2 to 5 p.m. Oct. 22, hosted by SmileKeepers (221 E. North St.) to benefit Hospice House of ShiawasseeCounty. There will be pumpkin decorating, a bounce house, cupcakedecorating, clowns, face painting, cider, doughnuts and a hot dogroast. No admission will be charged, but organizers ask youconsider a donation that “matches the amount of fun youhave.”

A BUFFET-STYLE Swiss steak dinner is planned from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct.22 at the Corunna United Methodist Church. Dinner includes steak,mashed potatoes and gravy, vegetables, coleslaw, rolls, dessert anda beverage. The cost is $8 for adults, $5 for children and free forthose under 5. Takeouts are available. ROAST BEEF DINNER from noon to 2 p.m. Oct. 23 at St. Mary CatholicChurch, 700 Columbia Dr. in Durand. Dinner includes roast beef,mashed potatoes, vegetable casserole, cole slaw, sauerkraut andsausage, rolls, beverage and homemade desserts. Cost is $9 foradults, $5 for ages 5 to 12 and free under age 5.

THE SCOA Morrice Senior Center invites the public to a night of funOct. 29 when it hosts the Raise the Roof dinner and dance from 5 to11 p.m. at the center. Twilight Memories big band will perform.Tickets are $15 each or $25 for two. all proceeds will help pay fora new roof at the Morrice Senior Center. THE OWOSSO BAND BOOSTERS 15th annual arts and crafts bazaar is from10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 12. Vendors are wanted. The cost is $30 perspace or $40 for a space with a table. Contact Janet at 725-9787for more information.

PASTY AND SOUP LUNCH and Grandma’s Quilt Show from 10 a.m. to 3p.m. Nov. 19 at Burton Community United Methodist Church, 510N.Baldwin Road, Owosso. come enjoy the stories of the quilts andafghans for an admission of $3. Stay for lunch — a homemade pastyor soup for $5. There will also be a craft sale.

THE ANNUAL Lennon United Methodist Church turkey dinner is at 4:30p.m. Oct. 27. Takeouts start at 4:30 p.m. with serving from 5 to 7p.m. Call (810) 621-3676 for takeouts. The church is at 1014 OakSt. The menu includes roasted turkey with dressing, mashedpotatoes, gravy, squash, corn, cole slaw, jello salad, rolls anddesserts. The cost is $9 for adults, $4 for those 5 to 12 and freefor those younger.

THE OWOSSO KNIGHTS of Columbus is hosting a trivia night Nov. 5 atits hall on M-21. Proceeds of the night will benefit the St.Vincent DePaul Society of both St. Joseph and St. Paul parishes.The event includes teams of up to eight people answering 10 roundsof 10 questions. Patrons may bring their own snacks. Pop and coffeewill be provided free while beer and wine may be purchased. Doorsopen at 6 p.m. with play to start at 7 p.m. The cost is $10 perperson with cash prizes awarded. Contact Dennis or Linda Hrcka at725-8037 to reserve a spot.

THE YMCA STRONG Kids Scholarship Fund allows the Y to provideprogram support and financial assistance to families who need it inour community. Scholarships are available to those who qualifybased on number of family members and household income. to helpaccomplish that mission, the Shiawassee Family YMCA is offering anight of dinner, dancing and fun to support the Strong KidsScholarship Fund. The event starts at 6 p.m. Nov. 5 with a dinnerat GiGi’s Banquet Hall followed by dancing to the music of the JackClarkson Band. There will be a 50/50 raffle and a cash baravailable. OWOSSO CHRISTIAN SCHOOL is hosting a chicken dinner and auction at5:30 p.m. Nov. 5 at the Family Life Center. Dinner is at 6:30 p.m.with entertainment by never too old, Chalk Art and Stronghold. Menu includes tossed greensalad, roast glazed turkey breasts, au gratin potatoes, greenbeans, fruit compote, pie, coffee and beverage. Adults $8, children4-12 $4, children under 4 free. Tickets from church members,Civille Insurance in downtown Owosso or at the door.

THE DURAND FUMC APPLE PIE fundraiser is starting. The church, 10016Newburg Road, is taking orders for sugared or sugar- free Dutchapple pies. The pies are unbaked and may be frozen until you’reready to bake them in your own oven. Pies are $10 each. Order bycalling 288-2380. all orders must be in by Nov. 7. when placingyour order, be prepared to state your name, phone number, thenumber of pies you’re ordering and whether you want sugared orsugar-free pies. Give the day and approximate time you will pick upyour pies. Pies may be picked up at the church 4 to 7 p.m. Nov. 13,or noon to 6 p.m. Nov. 14. If possible, pick up any sugar-free piesyou order  Nov. 13.

AN ARTS AND CRAFTS SHOW is set at the American Legion Auxiliary,3440 Morrish Road in Swartz Creek from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 12 andnoon to 4 p.m. Nov. 13. Free admission. Items include handmade woodcrafts, jewelry, blankets, holiday gifts and more. There will be abake sales, luncheon and all-day raffles. Vendor spaces stillavailable.
